For my assignment, I required to choose two values from three religion and elaborate on it for question A and for question B is about the role of teacher in order to teach the students on how to respect others religion. I think I would like to share with you all what I have wrote for question A, but before that I'm really sorry because my English is soooo bad, k..And another thing is, any point that I discuss here is based on the perpective of their followers, not me.Because some of the point, maybe you may have doubt on it. For eg: in Christianity, their main value is love and forgiveness, but yet it make me quite confused since they got what they called as 'original sin' (every baby is born sinful) whereas in Islam, we believed that every child is born with 'fitrah' which means clean (free from any sin). Maybe next time we will discuss about this futher=) Therefore, just take this as a knowledge and for you to read more on your own, okeh!

Let's start:

Religion is importance source of ethical values. In each religion, there are lots of values that have been teaching to its followers and that value becomes the practice among the followers. Religion becomes the source of ethical values because when someone practices a certain religion, he/she might follow the values that have been taught in that religion.

In this discussion, I would like to explain about two values from the perspective of Islamic religion, Christianity and Buddha.

From the perspective of Islam, I would like to choose the values of respect parents and honesty. According to Islamic teachings, to be obedient, to show respect and to show kindness to parents has been stated in the Holy Quran and also hadith such as to obey parents, treat them respectfully and to show kindness to them. The Holy Quran says, "Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor." - Surah Al Isra (17:23). Secondly, is value of honesty. Honesty in Islam is emphasizing in every aspect of live .Honesty in Islam implies telling truth, fulfill the promise, doing work sincerely and perfectly, fulfilling one's word, objective judgments, and objective decisions .In a hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “Honesty leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise . A man remains honest and concerned about honesty until he is recorded as an honest man with Allah. Lying leads to sinfulness and sinfulness leads to the Fire. A man keeps lying and remains partial to lies until he until he is recorded as a liar with Allah.” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim). This hadith has shown us on how Islam is really concern about honesty in human live.

In Christian, there are two main values which are love and forgiveness. Christianity is emphasizing the value of love. For example as we can see in what Jesus Christ has ordered, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (Jn 13:34-35). Love is Christian is wide including love towards God, parents, family, neighbour, friend, animal, plants and everything that created by God in this world. Forgiveness is another main value in Christian. In Gospel of Luke (6:37), it mention that,Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Therefore, Christian people are ordered to be forgiven, in order to be forgiven by their God. Forgiveness in Christian means to forgive someone who has done something wrong to you, or even to your enemy and not to have revenge onto them. Therefore, a Christian who is obey to what God had command them, they will have these two values in them, which is love and forgiveness.

From the perspective of Buddha, I choose the value of moderation and sustainability. The Buddha is also known as the Middle Path, where one neither lives too extravagantly nor too frugality. Moderation in Buddha is including moderation in our understanding, thought, action, speech, livelihood, effort, mindfulness and concentration. Another important value in Buddha is sustainability. In today’s world, we can see lots of destruction especially towards the environment has been done. Buddha taught it followers to appreciate the nature and not to destroy them. In Buddha, they also have a term call sustainability dharma, where it is about finding ways to live peacefully and sustainably on a global, community and, most importantly, personal level.

As a conclusion, religion is really an important source of ethical values whereby each individual will practice the value that have been taught by their own religion. Therefore, religion will influence the values that being practices by a person in his/her life.
